So while in my Pan African Studies class today, my Professor brought up the current event/situation that was occurring at UC San Diego. Upon reading the article and the actual event invitation i was outRAGED! Most importantly the fact that this was an event organized by a school fraternity. Someone has to speak out on these types of things….Schools and organizations have escalated from completely ignoring black history month to making fun and mocking the entire idea of a black history month. In my opinion not only should the frat be exalted but the author of said invitation and his accomplices should either be suspended and if not expelled for the slandering and disrespect of an entire culture. The university should be taking waaay more action then they are. Not only has this fraternity put a face of racism and discrimination on themselves but the university as well on a NATIONAL level.
btw, my friend from High school received an 100% paid scholarship to play football there, i wonder how he and people like him feel now? Infuriateds? Yes. Of course but now that tuition is raising and admission and transferring is becoming more of a challenge, blacks and minorities on the UCSD campus must feel in some way diasporic. CSUN is holding a live “walk-out” on March 4th to protest, increased tuition, budget cuts and furlough days. Wheew looks like I’m in the right place. All this makes me see is that CSUN and all other Campuses and Universities still have subjects to protest and ways of thinking to demolish and the only way we as students, parents as financial support, and people as people to do to so is to SPEAK UP!!!!!!
Heres a link to the report and the actual facebook invitation sent out to all UCSD students.
